Maine

I went to Maine!

Maine was very pretty – very, very photogenic. I thought that postcards of Maine were taken all in one particularly idyllic seaside town, you know?
Turns out the whole state is just that. Just beautiful homes, seaside views, crashing ocean and happy, happy people.

We drove through New Hampshire, stopping at a lake in White Mountain National Forest where I got in, and got good and eaten by some blackflies, and having a bite to eat at Shiloh’s in Woodsville, where we had the single happiest server I have ever encountered. This place was amazingly pleasant. Seriously.

We planned to eat at Red’s Eats, famous for their lobster roll, and eat we did. A massive roll of lobster (photo trapped on the lad’s cellular telephone, sadly), and a pint of fried clams. So full! So ill! So delicious.
Up to Pemaquid Point, our destination, where we hoped to do some sea kayaking, but alas it took far longer than expected to get there so were contented with a visit to the local lighthouse and a drive about town.
Saw some awesome signs of local artists for the Cheesebro Gallery which has the most amazing name, honestly, and crashed for the night in the most charming cabins at Sea Acres Motel & Cottages. No wifi, tube tvs, lovely older couple running the place. The office was their dining area, and I was sold.

On Day two, we ate breakfast at the Cupboard Cafe, where I had delightful eggs n hash, and terrible coffee (Americans, I love you, but your coffee is not strong enough), and continued up to Bangor, where we spent the afternoon browsing the Antique Mall. It was filled with amazing treasures. Also, tried Blueberry Coffee, which was pretty darn good!
Then we headed up to Fredericton to see my fantastic friends, Mina and Don. Mina had prepared a feast, and Don had stocked all the brews our hearts could want. We stayed up putting boxes on our heads until the wee hours.

Day three we woke, M&D prepared an amazing breakfast of melons, and clementines, bananas, coffee, gluten-free pancakes and delicious bacons.
Then Mina and I did photos for our Challenge, and we headed out toward home.
