Luxe, Glossy & Julep – April 2012

FINALLY got my Luxe box, May 1st! Not super impressed by that.

Products:

Seche Porcelain, File & Nail guide: This was my First In Line product, and I didn’t expect a 3.6ML bottle, single sheet of nail guides and teeny file when I requested a “Seche French Kit”. I suppose I shouldn’t complain too hard, but it was a bit disappointing. Other options in the First In Line were Panty By Post (mail panties, not sure about this), an Essie polish (which turned out to be a super cute pale pink colour), and a hair treatment.

Orlane Oligo Light Smoothing Cream: I’m looking forward to trying this! The Orlane hand cream I have is lovely, so I’m sure this will be as well.

Pantene Pro-V Aqua Light Shampoo & Conditioner: I don’t really consider Pantene to be a luxury brand, so I’m surprised to see this in my box. It smells heavenly, I’ll give it that, and the sample size is large, but when I can buy something full size for $6, I don’t really care to test it.

Fekkai Advanced Salon Technician Colour Care Shampoo & Conditioner: Two samples of this, each, in the packets. I hate packets because I end up covered in product, but I do really like the shampoo. It seems to make my hair light and shiny, and clean feeling, without being super stripping (which the Free Your Mane shampoo from Glymm was, big time!)

Fekkai Advanced Salon Technician Colour Care Rapid Results Moisture Mask: I have really thin hair so I’m waiting for the weekend to try this out, lest I look like I’ve got a mop of oil on my head. The Fekkai products I’ve tried before are very pleasant, though, so perhaps that won’t be the case.

Overall, were I to rate this box, I’d give it a B-. Two kinds of shampoo products in one box isn’t my idea of awesome, and the FIL product was a letdown, but the Fekkai & Orlane make up for it.

Glossy! I got my Glossy about a week ago, and it looks fab!

Products:
Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer: The lotion from the last box was so much more pleasant than I anticipated that I’m really looking forward to cracking this one open. It’s also full size, which is exceptionally pleasing. I love that on the cards for this when it’s a f/s product it reads “FULL SIZE!” which makes me imagine a small child crying out about it’s sizedness. I’m silly.

Elizabeth Grant Skin Care Shower Gel: The scent on this is ‘Island Coconut’ and Oh. Em. Gee. I want to eat it. (I won’t). I need to dust off my shower pouf because this little lady is going to make me super happy in the morning, I can tell. Yummy, yummy. FULL SIZE!

Wella Brilliance Conditioner, Fine to Normal: I feel like Glossy paid attention to my beauty profile / survey thinger. I have superfine hair and it’s awesome to see products which cater to that in my box.

Wella Brilliance Treatment, Fine to Normal: The two Wella products claim ‘diamond dust’ which I guess is a selling point? Seems wasteful, I dunno. Load up that dust and put it on my finger, not in my hair. The size of these is good, too, I expect to be able to use them regularly for a month or more.

Marcelle Xtension Plus Mascara: FULL SIZE! again, these kids are spoiling me. I tested this out because it’s meant to have ‘ultimate curling action’ and I don’t know what that’s supposed to mean. It did, however REALLY give my lashes a curl. I demanded my boyfriend scrutinize my lashes and he said “Um, I guess they look more .. long? I’ve never noticed.” More … long is good!

Marcelle BB Cream Beauty Balm: I’m excited to see Marcelle products. It’s one of those lines I often see in the pharmacy and think “It’s a pharmacy brand but pricy, it can’t be worth it” so to be able to test these is pretty nifty. So far I am impressed.

Box rating for Glossy would be an A. Three full size products and the size of the Wellas is very substantial.

Julep Maven! I just signed up for this one a few days ago, it seems like and I’ve already got my intro box in hand. Very impressive work!

My quiz said I am ‘Classic with a Twist’ and who am I to argue with that? So the colours selected for me are Kelly, a blush white creme, and Anne, what they describe as “Ultra-saturated Violet” but I’m seeing more of a lavender. Either way, it’s lovely. The intro box also comes with a glycolic hand scrub.

This isn’t a sample service so much as NAILPOLISH AT MY DOOR every month, which I am totes into. I swatched Kelly and it goes on a bit streaky after one coat, but perfect at two. The formula is awesome. Very cool.

Rating? The service lets you see the box before you get it, so I knew what I was getting into. This particular box I had a coupon code for to get at $0.01, so really you can’t possibly go wrong. The usual price is $20 and if I had paid that for this I would be pleased but not blown away. However, Julep polishes usually go for I believe $14, so two for twenty is a bargain. I’m going with B.

Overall, my favourite box this month was Glossy, far and away.

My Glymm Review (April 2012)

  1. You only got your April Luxe on May 1st? Oh dear. That’s the wrong month altogether.

Your Glossy subscription is super impressive! My mom buys a lot of the Elizabeth Grant skincare products, but I have yet to see any bath products in her stash. That shower gel that you received sounds nice. 🙂

…And now because you mentioned a coupon code for Julep Maven, I am signed up for at least one box. :]
