My hair’s been like this for a few weeks now (I update in advance). Alex stopped me on the street one day and gave me her card, saying she liked my style (which is probably the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me) and since Chop Shop is seemingly defunct, I thought, why not! The worst that could happen is my hair will get fried by some amateur. I looked her up on the intertubes, though, and she’s really supertalented!

The tips are a dark green, and it started out with just wisps of candy pink – like a rocket popsicle. When I left her studio it was late at night, and I didn’t really get the full effect until the next day. I looked at it and looked at it and decided I wanted more pink. Normally, in this situation I’d do it myself, but Alex made me feel SO COMFORTABLE that I felt okay with asking her to add it. I went back for a second pinking a week later where she added a tonne of highlights – but my hair didn’t take the colour in a way she was happy with. I thought NBD, the blonde is the hardest part, I can toss a wash over it and it’ll be okay.

A few days later she messaged me and asked if I would come back to pink again so that SHE was happy with it. To me, this is the most awesome thing someone could do. I’m so glad I did, too. The colour it is now is super vibrant, there’s a tonne of it, and it looks EXACTLY like how I wanted it. For the first time ever, I have PERFECT hair.

I suppose I can’t say that without a look at the final product, eh? Alright. Here you go.

I didn’t intend for this to be quite such a testimonial, but I guess when I find something I love I rave, so here’s something I feel is also important: since I was around three times, I saw her work on a number of folk – every time asking the questions I feel most stylists don’t -“You’re touching it there, what are you looking for that it’s not doing?” “Is this the shape you want?” “If I do this, is that what you’re looking for?” – she’s the most communicative stylist I’ve ever been to – she explains why she makes certain choices, how it affects the hair and what will happen after washing. I’m thrilled. I referred Mina to her for wedding hair, and my friend Shiv for her cut / colour, and I know Shiv was also really happy. I guess what I’m saying is, if you’re in Montreal and need your hair did, go see her.
