Victoria BC, Feb 2016

So that’s what 2015 had to offer. France, summer cabins, a few other things. We celebrated a year (!) of being married with brunch and year-old cake, and a small party at my in-laws’. We rang in the new year asleep, and spent most of January acclimating to winter. At the end of February, we took a weekend trip out to British Columbia.

It was my first time on the west coast, and our first time in Victoria, and it was amazing. Truly beautiful, and so temperate! Last weekend of February and I didn’t need a coat! (I still had one, I’m not insane, but I didn’t always need it).

We ate at Ebizo, where we tried natto for the first time, which was great! Sort of like burnt coffee tasting, not at all what I was expecting. We also checked our RE-bar, The Drake, Shizen, Lure, and I had waffles (!!) at West Coast Waffles.

We walked around for two days straight, taking in how different it is from the East coast. The trees were mossy all the time, and it was damp and misty, and people looked relaxed.

We also rented a motorcycle! In February! Got rained on, of course, but it was more than warm enough. Year round biking is definitely a major draw for the west coast, I’d say.

Trip highlight for sure was all the sudden wildlife! We spotted an otter, what may have been an eagle, GIANT birds, and these here fellows camp out at Fisherman’s Wharf and scarf down fishies tossed from a red plate at The Floating Fish Store. Which had THE most amazing (gluten-free) fish and chips. Highly recommended.

I really hope we can go back to Victoria. Our short trip felt like just the tip of the iceberg.
